Just the other night as I lay awake, unable to sleep, I thought to myself; what would happen if all the Fairytale Characters got loose and started wreaking havoc on the world as we know it now, it would be a beautiful sight. Then I looked out my window and saw it happening before my eyes, fairytale creatures running amuck, high on Chocolaty treats and Flavoured Carbonized drinks.

I saw my favourite stories come to life, the Big Bad Wolf and Little Red Riding hood, Alice and the White Rabbit, I even saw some old friends. Dracula and his three brides, The Wolfman and Frankenstein and his Bride, they all seemed to forget what they should be doing.

Dracula didn’t even glance at the bare neck of a passerby; he was concentrating on his Candy collection. The big Bad wolf was Helping Little Red with her overly heavy bag of candy. The Wolfman never made a peep when all of these delicious little Goat shaped children passed by.

I just couldn’t believe it, what had happened; nothing was as it should be. No havoc, no bloodshed, everyone was smiling and happy as they walked around on a crisp Halloween night, forgetting the roles they play and just having fun.  As I watched them, something happened within my cold dead heart; I had no desire for havoc or bloodshed anymore. All I kept thinking about was talking with my friends, having a good time and boasting about all the candy we’ve gotten as we run around without a care in the world. Without knowing it, I found myself walking out my front door, bag in hand, ready to accept candy from strangers, wanting only the candy and nothing more from them.

I guess Halloween brings out the child in everyone, even someone as old as me. I can’t wait for next year.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Alice and Wonderland, and also of Tim Burton. When I heard he was going to be making Alice in Wonderland, I was ecstatic. His movies are always so whimsical and visually stunning. Not to mention he has a great line-up of actors and actresses in his films. Mind you, the main characters are usually the same, but great nonetheless.

This version of the film takes place years after the events of the first film, Alice now 19-years old, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. She runs off, following the White Rabbit into a hole and ending up back in Wonderland, a place she visited in a similar manner 10 years before, yet doesn’t remember.

Wonderland was a peaceful kingdom until the Red Queen overthrew her sister, the White Queen. The creatures of Wonderland, such as the Cheshire Cat, Tweedledee and Tweedledum and the March Hare, ready to revolt, wait for Alice to help them. With the help of the White Queen, the Mad Hatter and the Caterpillar, Alice starts seeing flashbacks of her original visit, back when she was seven.

I’m particularly interested in seeing how Johnny Depp pulls off the Mad Hatter character. He’s always put in these offbeat, strange and theatrical roles, so I’m fairly confident that he’ll be amazing.  Another great actress is Helena Bonham Carter; she’s great at playing those dark and crazy roles, which complements the Red Queen perfectly. All in all, Tim Burton has impeccable taste when casting his films.
