From the Crusades, which we’re sanctioned by the Papacy to the White Lotus Rebellion, wars between good and evil have been waging for years, or what was thought to be a good side and an evil side. In all reality neither side was good or evil; they simply had a different view on what life was about.

With all the wars waging even today, this is the only time of the year where Angels and Demons, Cops and Criminals and every type of person who should normally fight against each other can come together and fight for one greater purpose: who will get the most candy and of course to egg the occasional house that decides to hand out a Healthy Alternative; like a Banana.

So keep this in mind, it will save you hours of scrapping dried egg and silly string off of your windows; the next time you’re about to grab a sack of apples instead of that delicious 50 pack of mini chocolate bars, remember that this is the one night of the year that you can help a Lion and a Goat come together to fight for the same thing: good candy, good fun and lots of memories that do not end in bloodshed, unless you decide to come to my Halloween party, but I promise it won’t hurt….much.

The term cenobite is an archaic word meaning simply “a member of a communal religious order”. Indeed, the original novel mentions the Cenobites as “Theologians of the Order of the Gash”; they are also referred to as Hierophants. They can reach Earth’s reality only through a rupture in time and space (referred to as a “Schism”) which is opened and closed using certain unearthly artifacts. The most common form for these artifacts is an innocuous-looking Chinese-style puzzle box called the Lament Configuration.

The Cenobites all have horrific mutilations or body piercings. The best known of the Cenobites in the Hellraiser films is Pinhead. Pinhead’s mutilation consists of pins that have been hammered through his flesh into his skull in a grid pattern and six open wounds on his lower torso with the flesh peeled back, and also fish-hooks embedded in the back of his head.

During the first World War, Captain Elliot Spenser witnessed many atrocities, his appetites were indulged, but it was through the Lament Configuration that a world of experience beyond limits would open up to him and eventually become his domain.

Originally enforcers for Leviathan, Lord of Hell, Cenobites were charged with retrieving anyone who solved the Lament Configuration, also known as the Lemarchand Box, a wood and brass puzzle box, which if solved opens a gateway between our world and Hell, highly sought after by the greatest of hedonists for its promise of unparalleled pleasures. The Cenobites were then directly responsible for the pleasure/pain torture of said individual.

Who hasn’t seen angel Halloween costumes over and over?  This heavenly being is often recreated for Halloween; but this year why not the angel more creativity.  No need to do the overdone biblical version of the angel with its standard golden halo and crispy white feather wings.  No, this year you can go mean or nice with your angel Halloween costumes and shake things up a bit.  Even though the angel is a common costume, it doesn’t mean you can’t come up with a newer and much improved version of this favored Halloween costume.

Prior to designing, or heading out to purchase, your angel Halloween costumes this year, it might be a good idea to get some ideas going in your head.  Will you follow the traditional white color scheme, or will you color outside the lines and try adding some bold color?  Will you be a ‘good’ angel or a ‘bad’ angel?  These are all things to be considered up front.

Heavenly Angel Halloween Costumes

Many cultures across the world have different ideas on what the angel actually looks like.  By doing some upfront research into the history of angels, you can come up with angel Halloween costumes that are more authentic looking.  But keep in mind that your angel costume doesn’t have to follow any historical format at all; on the contrary, this is Halloween, you can go all out with your creativity!

When thinking about the specifics of your angel costume keep in mind the three basic components:  feather wings, halo (usually a golden halo), and a robe (usually white).  These three components are a guide and are in no ways meant to restrict you in designing your adult Halloween costumes this year.  Your angel can have a little more grit; it can even be downright devious.  And who says the robe needs to be white; you could add some drama through color if you want.

Keep the basics in your mind as a starting point without thinking that angel Halloween costumes must have uniformity.  Who says the golden halo needs to be golden?  You could be a viable angel with an ivy wreath surrounding your head as well.  And feather wings may be standard fare, but wings could be made out of some other material and dyed a color different than white should you decide.

Adding accessories to the angel Halloween costumes are also a possibility.  Make the religious looking angel carry a book; should you decide to go with a more ‘devilish’ look for your angel, a pitchfork may be a good accompaniment to your outfit.  In the end, you should add whatever bells and whistles to your outfit that seem the most appropriate.

Think about having a little extra fun this Halloween by choosing angel Halloween costumes of an opposing nature for you and a friend.  One person can put the golden halo on atop a curly blond wig donning a glowing white robe; the other partner can play the opposite and wear a costume that is more Lucifer inspired.  To really go all out, consider adding a touch of role play by pretending to be arch enemies at any parties attended together, you’ll garner lots of attention and make for a more fun evening.

The point I want to make is that your angel Halloween costumes don’t have to be the same old drab seen in previous years.  Go ahead, change the look, and update it by adding more bells and whistles.  One creative thought would be to pay someone to play the role of  ‘demon’ at your Halloween party.  Do what you can to make this year’s angel Halloween costumes have a more updated edge.  Have fun and be different with your angel costume this year.
